‘Really close’: Fabrizio Romano has just delivered some bad news for Arsenal

Reported Arsenal target Andre Onana is now “really close” to joining Inter, according to Fabrizio Romano.

In addition, Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno is not on the Nerazzurri radar.

Arsenal were heavily linked with the Ajax custodian over the summer.

A doping ban scuppered any hope of a summer move for Onana, but it has since been reduced on appeal.

The 25-year-old, whose contract runs out next summer, is now free to play from November.

And claimed after the transfer window closed that Arsenal could’ve rekindled interest in Onana going into next year, depending on Leno’s future.

Ajax sporting Marc Overmars made clear earlier this week that the club won’t be renewing Onana’s contract.

“We have already tried and it has not worked out, so we have moved on,” quotes him as saying.

Meanwhile, Leno – who has lost his first-team place at Arsenal – continues to be linked with a move away from the Emirates.

However, Romano has made clear that any reports linking the Gunners stopper to Inter are wide of the mark.

“Inter are not considering Bernd Leno as option,” he wrote on Twitter. “He’s not even in the list.

“Andre Onana is the goalkeeper they want to sign since July – and he’s really close to join Inter as free agent for June 2022 as reported for days.”

Arsenal will have to look elsewhere – TBR View

A potential double blow for the Gunners here, based on what Romano has said.

With Inter seemingly not interested in Leno, Arsenal will have to see if they can find other suitors.

And given Onana is such a talented goalkeeper, Mikel Arteta’s charges look set to miss out on him as well.

Ramsdale has done ever so well since coming into the XI, but if Leno does go, then Arsenal will need to look once more for another stopper.
