Rangers’ quest for a new central defender looks set to come to a conclusion. According to reports in the Swedish media, Filip Helander is on his way to Ibrox.
that Helander will move to Rangers for a fee of around £4.2m. The 26-year-old defender will complete the central defensive ranks for Steven Gerrard’s men.
Helander will compete with Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic and George Edmundson for the centre-back spots. He is making the switch from the Italian top-flight to the Scottish Premiership.
After starting his career at Malmo, Helander has had spells with Hellas Verona and Bologna in Italy. But his time in Serie A looks like it is coming to an end.

Helander stands at 6ft 4in tall and is a dominant centre-back. The Sweden international is also left-footed which fits the profile of what Gerrard is looking for.
Rangers fans will hope he fares better than departing duo Gareth McAuley and Joe Worrall. McAuley has been released and Worrall has returned to Nottingham Forest after his loan.
Here are some tweets from Rangers supporters discussing the imminent arrival of Helander.

Filip Helander looks to be a different type of defender compared to Niko Katic and Connor Goldson.
Goldson and Katic are goal threats, whereas Helander looks to be a stopper.

Ten minutes ago I’d never heard of Filip Helander but I can say with 100% confidence that if he joins Rangers he’ll easily be the best Swede to have played football in Scotland.
