Real Sociedad manager has a theory over why Martin Zubimendi ‘rejected’ Liverpool

Martin Zubimendi rejecting Liverpool is one of the biggest stories of this transfer window.

Arne Slot took charge of the Reds after Jurgen Klopp left the club in May. Replacing an icon like the German is not easy, but the new Liverpool boss has started his Premier League career with a win on the opening day of the season.

Liverpool fans were hoping for a few new signings under Slot, but until now, he hasn’t signed a single player in this window.

Many people expected that to change when the Reds were chasing Zubimendi, but he rejected Liverpool.

Real Sociedad manager shares why he thinks Martin Zubimendi rejected Liverpool

Liverpool really do need a new midfielder this summer.

The Reds have been in need of a solid number six since Fabinho left the club, but for one reason or another, they haven’t been able to get anyone in.

Zubimendi would’ve been the perfect player in Slot’s system at Liverpool, and a deal even looked like it would happen.

Reports had claimed that Zubimendi had accepted Liverpool’s offer, but he decided to snub them and stay at Real Sociedad in the end.

The Spanish club’s manager, Imanol Alguacil. was quizzed about Zubimendi’s decision in his first press conference of the summer on Saturday.

The 53-year-old claimed that he believes Zubimendi, like himself, thinks Real Sociedad are the biggest club in the world that’s why he rejected Liverpool.

Alguacil said, as per : “He has rejected an offer. There is no doubt that Liverpool are great and the fact that he has said no, putting in what they put in, is a reason to be proud.

“It means that things are being done well at the club and even if such powerful clubs come, Martin says noI’m happy, but there’s still until the 30th. Now it was Liverpool, but tomorrow it could be another great one, because the players have a level.

“Although, for me, the biggest is Real Sociedad. I imagine he must have thought that and that is why he decided to stay./p>

Liverpool may have found an internal alternative for Zubimendi

It has been a few days since Zubimendi rejected Liverpool, and the Reds haven’t dived back into the market to sign anyone else.

The new Premier League season has also begun now, and Slot had a decision to make over who will start at the base of his midfield.

Like many Liverpool fans predicted, Slot chose Ryan Gravenberch to play with Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister in the middle of the park.

The Dutchman is no Zubimendi, but he is still a very talented player, and he had a decent game against Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Liverpool don’t look close to signing any new midfielder this summer, so Gravenberch may well be the Zubimendi alternative at Anfield this season.
