‘Real possibility’: Jesse Marsch now says ‘special’ Leeds United player could make his first league start vs Tottenham
It’s safe to say life isn’t boring at Leeds United under Jesse Marsch right now.
Their most recent league fixture saw them come from 3-1 down to beat Bournemouth, and he gave plenty of young stars their opportunity in the cup in midweek.
Marsch admitted that there were question marks over the fitness of Jack Harrison.
The winger was substituted at half-time last weekend, but played all 90 minutes against Wolves in the Carabao Cup.
However, Marsch said Harrison had picked up a muscle strain but was ‘’ he’d be involved against Spurs.
Marsch was then asked if Wilfried Gnonto could start the match against Tottenham if Harrison had a problem.
It would cap off the impressive start to his Leeds career, after Marsch said just two months ago he wasn’t ready for the Premier League.
His introduction against Bournemouth last weekend was exceptional.
Gnonto’s bursting run with just a few minutes to go couldn’t be stopped by Bournemouth’s defence.
He then played a perfectly weighted pass into Crysencio Summerville who sent Elland Road mad.

“Yeah, I think if Jack seems a little bit questionable then it becomes a real possibility,”
“I think Sam Greenwood as well played really well when he came off the bench.
“So, it’s a little bit what tactic we decide to use.
“You know, is Willy a better fit or is Sam a better fit to supplement what we would require from Jack.
“Regardless, I think that both played really well against Bournemouth, both played well when they came on against Wolves and I know that both will be ready.”
The ‘special’ 18-year-old is a direct, intelligent threat that can play through the middle or out wide.
His balance makes him very difficult to dispossess him, although he’s not the most prolific forward in front of goal.
Gnonto is still very raw, but the faith shown in him by Marsch and Italy coach Roberto Mancini shows his incredible potential.
It would be a fine way to go into the World Cup break for Gnonto if he could earn his first league start against Tottenham today.
