Real Madrid issue contract ultimatum to Arsenal target Marco Asensio

Real Madrid have reportedly told Marco Asensio that if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new contract by June 30, he will be sold in the summer.

According to Spanish newspaper , Los Blancos has ‘presented a proposal for renewal’ to the Spanish international.

However, the terms of renewal reportedly don’t meet the ‘economic terms’ that Asensio considers he deserves after six seasons with the Spanish giants.

Asensio has played 226 games for the La Liga leaders in which he has scored 47 goals and provided 23 assists ().

Following a trophy-filled time at Madrid, which includes two Champions League victories, Asensio believes he deserves a wage increase.

However, with his contract expiring next June, Madrid are not accepting Asensio’s wishes and have offered the same wage package he is currently on.

Sport report that Madrid would have ‘no problem’ making Asensio available this summer, with Liverpool and Arsenal already credited with an interest in the man who has scored 10 goals this season.

At the age of 26, Asensio is entering his peak years and would add undoubted quality to both Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta’s sides with his wand of a left foot.

The creative midfielder has previously been described as ‘world class’ by the man who gave him his senior Spain debut, Vincente Del Bosque ()

Asensio has on the table a proposed contract for five seasons from Madrid with the same salary of £9million per year that he is currently receiving.

The only difference from the one-time Spain international’s current deal would be that he could receive an additional £1.5million per year through bonuses.

The former Mallorca striker hasn’t yet responded to Madrid’s proposal which has led to the hierarchy becoming ‘impatient’.

Such is Florentino Perez’s impatience, the club has set Marco Asensio and his representatives a deadline of June 30.

If the Champions League quarter-finalists don’t receive a response by then, Real Madrid’s number 11 will be put on the market this summer which could prompt summer enquiries from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.
