Real Madrid could scupper Manchester United’s plans to sign £22m left-back with high football IQ

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United are interested in signing Miguel Gutierrez, but Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid pose a major threat.

That is according to The Sun, which has reported how much Gutierrez would cost and why United want him.

Manchester United want to sign Miguel Gutierrez

Well, according to , Manchester United want to sign a left-back in the January transfer window and one of the players they are looking at is Miguel Gutierrez.

Sergio Reguilon has returned to his parent club Tottenham Hotspur, so United manager Erik ten Hag wants to find a replacement left-back.

United have scouted 22-year-old Girona left-back Gutierrez in recent weeks and have been impressed by his performances.

The Sun has claimed that “the Red Devils highly value Gutierrez because of his high football IQ and attacking profile”.

AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund also want to sign Gutierrez, who could be sold for £22 million and has been linked with Arsenal as well.

Real Madrid pose a problem

Now, Manchester United can easily afford £22 million. After all, they are one of the biggest and wealthiest clubs in the world.

The problem that United face is that Real Madrid could make a move of their own for the Spanish left-back.

According to The Sun, Madrid, who are aiming to win La Liga and the UEFA Champions League this season, own 50 per cent of Gutierrez’s rights and hold a sell-on-clause.

The 22-year-old came through Madrid’s youth system and played in the first team before being sold to Girona in 2022.

The Sun has added that Madrid “could either buy Gutierrez back to sell at a profit or easily bring him back into the fold of their own team if they were to match United’s bid”.

Madrid and Girona are first and second respectively in the La Liga table at the moment. Both have picked up 48 points from 19 matches.

Gutierrez has scored one goal and given one assist in 18 La Liga matches for Girona this season.

Last season, the left-back made 27 starts and seven substitute appearances in the league for Girona. He scored two goals and provided three assists in those games.
