‘Real creative’, ‘excited’: Shane Duffy in awe of Celtic player who’s always ‘quality’ in training

Celtic defender Shane Duffy has waxed lyrical about Hoops teammate Ryan Christie after the latter assisted both of the Parkhead side’s goals on Wednesday evening.

Neil Lennon’s charges were given a tough game at St Mirren as Lee Erwin gave the hosts a shock third-minute lead when he scrambled home at the back post from a corner.

However, first-half goals from Duffy and James Forrest managed to turn the game around for Celtic, as they held on to secure their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership win.

The Republic of Ireland captain now has two goals in the first two Scottish Premiership games for his loan club, this one especially crucial given the narrow margin of victory.

Both of Celtic’s goals in Paisley came about thanks to teasing deliveries from Christie, resulting in the Brighton loanee hailing his teammate, in conversation with the Celtic .

“He (Christie) is a real creative player,” said Duffy. “I was buzzing with his deliveries.

“He’s a quality player and shows it in training. Excited to keep playing with him and hopefully can put more on my head!”

Duffy’s loan switch to Celtic was met with much fanfare and, better still, he has got his Bhoys stint to the best possible start with two goals in two games.

Christie, meanwhile, has been on the Parkhead books for five years and is a relative veteran in the green and white, having clocked up over a century of appearances.

Both have contributed massively to Celtic’s good start to the Premiership season and long may it continue, given the increasing threat from their Glasgow rivals.
