‘Real asset’, ‘quality’: Some Everton fans want new contract for £100k-a-week star
A number of Everton fans have called on the Goodison Park hierarchy to give Toffees midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson a new contract.
The 31-year-old has been in great form this season, making 25 Premier League appearances and 32 in all competitions.
Sigurdsson has been especially impressive the past few months, working relentlessly and providing plenty of goal contributions.

The Iceland international scored in the 2-0 win over Liverpool and assisted Richarlison for the winning goals against Southampton and West Brom.
Sigurdsson’s contract expires at the end of next season, and according to the , Everton have yet to formally hold talks.
By the time his current deal expires, he’ll be pushing 33, so if the Toffees were to offer him a new deal, how long would it be for and how much would he be offered?
And if both parties decided to part ways, would he be sold in the summer – he likely wouldn’t have much resale value – or would he be kept on until his deal expires?
Plenty of points to ponder, but one thing’s for sure – quite a few Evertonians seem keen on him to get a new deal, as per the below Twitter comments:
Personally I want him to stay but I wouldn’t hold it against him if he left, surely he wants to play as a #10 for the rest of his career? After all he only has 15 starts this season & barely 1/3rd of those matches were at CAM.

Categorically yes keep him, people have an agenda for no reason even though he’s actually been one of our best players this season whilst others (Allan/DCL etc) have been injured. Don’t understand why people want to hate him

If we qualify for Europe you need to have squad depth, prior to the arrival of James he was the one player who could produce a moment of magic. His standards dropped but still a good player imo, unless you get a decent transfer fee then we should keep

Gylfi isn’t the player we thought he would be, let’s be honest.
But keeping him is a no brainier – even in 2/3 years he’d be worth bringing in as a sub jut for his delivery

It’s an easy one. If we can replace these stats he can go if we cannot we need to keep. Personally think we need squad depth which he gives this and doubt we replace and get the depth.

I have never been his biggest fan but the 3 months he had been really good, worked relentlessly and obviously assisted a lot. Is that just someone after a new contract though who ups his game 🤔

Dont see why not, earned his place in the team and has shown his quality on a more consistent basis than ever this season

Deserves a year extension at least. Under the right system + on dead ball, he is lethal. Taken a lot of flak (deservedly so in some respects) but since taking the captains armband and under Carlo, he’s a real asset imo. Not getting any younger, but in Carlo we trust 👊🏻
