Ray Parlour names Naby Keita as Jurgen Klopp’s worst signing as Liverpool manager
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour praised Jurgen Klopp’s transfer record as Liverpool manager but said Naby Keita has not worked out as well as other signings.
Keita was singled out as the one it hasn’t worked out for at Anfield, and he is currently in the middle of his second straight injury-hit season with the Reds.
Parlour told [04/12/19]: “The only one who probably hasn’t really worked out for him as he’d like has been Keita. He bought him for £52million, but he hasn’t been the player they bought in.
“He’s not improved as much as probably he would have liked – he’s had his injury problems. Half of these players he’s brought in have been absolutely different class.”

TBR’s View – Could Liverpool get even better if Keita hits top form?
Klopp has beefed up the spine of his team with Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, and perhaps Keita – who he waited a transfer window to sign – was also supposed to be part of that revolution.
But Keita has never really had a chance to show his best form because of injury, and meanwhile one of the major questions around Liverpool has been a lack of flair and guile in midfield.
Perhaps Keita could have offered the blend of creativity and power Liverpool lack slightly at times but it is testament to Liverpool’s transfer strategy that he is the only one who could really be seen as a failure (so far) under the German and that hasn’t stopped Liverpool going where they want to go.
