Ray Parlour explains why he’s surprised by Aaron Ramsdale’s move from Arsenal to Southampton

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has agreed a deal to join Southampton before deadline day.

The England international lost his spot in the team after David Raya’s arrival last summer and looks set to make a swit𒀰ch to the Saints in the coming hours.

Arsenal are holding off on sanctioning Ramsdꦜale’s sale as they work towards signing a replacement, as confirmed by Southampton manager Russell Martin at a ༺pres𒈔s conference earlier today.

As the 26-year-old edges closer to ending his three-year stay at the Emirates, Ray Parlour b💃elieves he’s taking a bit of a step down by moving to S🍨outhampton.

The Arsenal legend clearly holds Ramsdale in high regard but believes the Englishman could have go🔜ne to a bigger club.

“It’s a move that Aar🌄on obviously wants to play football,” Parlour said on 𝐆.

“I thoꩲught he might have gone somewhere, not being disrespectful, big cꩲlub, but he has made that decision.

“He has got to now really get his head doꦬwn, try really hard, get back to the keeper he was. He is a ve🎃ry good keeper.”

Southampton are set to pay £25m to sign Ramsdale andඣ the move is expected to be confirmed imminently.

Ramsdale needs regular game time

When Ramsdale signed for Arsenal in 2021, it looked like he was set to be their number 🦂one for years to come and also looked se💞t to take over from Jordan Pickford as England’s main goalkeeper.

However, things haven’t gone as planned for💞 the 26-year-old in recent years as Raya has made a massive impressio𝕴n since joining Arsenal last season.

Ramsdale still has a lot of time to return toജ his b♔est and a move to Southampton could be just what he needs to get his career back on track.

As for Arsenal, a £25m fee for their second-choice goalkeep♒er represents good business as they continue to work towards signing his🌸 replacement.

Bournemouth’s Neto has agreed to join Arsenal, while Joan Garcia has also been linked with a move to the 🉐Gun✃ners in recent weeks.
