Rating five players recently linked with Leeds, including Uruguay international

Leeds United are on the cusp of promotion to the Premier League as Marcelo Bielsa looks to return the Whites to the top flight for the first time since 2004.

If they do gain promotion, the chances are that Bielsa and director of football Victor Orta will be busy in the transfer window. Here are five recently-linked players, rated out of 10 on the likelihood they could move to Elland Road.

Yohan Benalouane – Nottingham Forest

A no-nonsense defender, French outlet Leeds are rivalling West Ham and Cardiff City for the Tunisia international. He has impressed since joining Forest from Leicester City in January.

Leeds need a centre-back, but Benalouane hardly fits into the style of play Bielsa wants. Given a club like West Ham are interested, and that he does not fit Bielsa’s footballing ethos, he is unlikely to join.

Ander Iturraspe – Athletic Bilbao

Leeds and Bielsa want to form a reunion at Elland Road between the Argentine manager and the Spain international. He is out of contract at the end of the season.

Many reports suggested a Leeds move in March. But little has occurred since. The link with Bielsa and the fact Iturraspe suggests a move could be likely, but promotion is key.

TBR Rating: 4/10.

Bruno Viana – Braga

Impressing in the Portuguese top tier, Leeds are rivalling Leicester City, Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers for the 24-year-old centre-back.

As aforementioned, a centre-back is likely to be on Bielsa’s agenda due to the lack of depth at the back. Viana boasts the traits Bielsa will want. But between £8million and £10million, and top Premier League sides interested, it remains to be seen if Leeds can land Viana.

Nahitan Nandez – Boca Juniors

Leeds are rivalling Newcastle United for Boca ace Nandez. A player with plenty of calibre, Nandez played for Uruguay at the World Cup. It is believed he will be allowed to leave for £17million.

What makes a move likely, though, is that that his client wants to play under Bielsa. Promotion will be crucial, but he would be a top signing.

TBR Rating: 7/10.

Daniel James – Swansea City

Inches away from a move to Elland Road in the January window, it has been widely reported that Leeds remain interested in the Wales international.

Premier League sides have since become interested. But the promise of remaining a first-team regular is available at Leeds. Only a year left on his Swans contract, James is the likeliest to make the move to Leeds.
