Raphinha gets 5/10: Leeds star struggles as Brazil narrowly beat Colombia

Leeds star Raphinha started for Brazil in the early hours of Friday morning, his fourth cap –

Raphinha, 24, has been on fire this season. For club and country, he already has seven goals – scoring five times for Leeds in 10 Premier League games.

Clocking up four Brazil appearances, the Leeds winger made his mark in the previous international break – scoring two goals, and creating two more.

He is in the form of his life, and it looks as though he is only going to get better. But against Colombia, Raphinha was far from his best.

In a frustrating night for much of the match, Raphinha started the game alongside Gabriel Jesus and Neymar. But he was subbed after 64 minutes.

Globo Esporte delivered player ratings on their website, and handed Raphinha a 5/10 – suggesting his decision making was off, on Friday.

“At the beginning of the match, he missed a pass – dribbling when he didn’t have space. He provoked a yellow card from [Johan] Mojica,”

“He gave a good pass to Danilo in a dangerous move by the Seleção in the first half. In the second 45, he tried to cross, but the best option was Danilo.”

Raphinha struggles: Catch 22 for Leeds, ahead of Tottenham clash

Firstly, Leeds will be delighted that Raphinha has come through the match unscathed. He was replaced by Ajax’s Antony just after the hour mark.

It was an important win for Brazil, who have now secured qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta scoring on 72 minutes.

Last time out for Brazil, Raphinha scored a brace – shining for his country. It instantly provoked enormous chat about his future.

While Leeds will want him to do well to continue his good form at club level, the odd bad performance does at least save talk about a potential exit.
