Ranking West Ham’s 2019 summer signings from worst to best
West Ham United fans saw six new faces walk through the door this summer.
The team have struggled, and most of the newbies have not had the desired impact at the club so far, but how do they rank from worst to best?
#6 Roberto
Could it have been anyone else?
Without doubt the worst signing West Ham made in the summer of 2019, and it’s likely he won’t be sticking around too much longer.
Spaniard Roberto was trusted to take over from Lukasz Fabianski after he suffered a hip injury, but the 33-year-old was a total calamity between the sticks.
The veteran stopper has just looked a bag of nerves for the Hammers, which undoubtedly affects his teammates and the fans.
#5 Goncalo Cardoso
Yet to make an appearance for the first-team, although it might not be much longer until he comes into the picture.
He’s made 11 appearances so far in PL2 and is, West Ham hope, a player for the future
#4 Albian Ajeti
Swiss striker Albian Ajeti hasn’t started in the Premier League yet but has made a few appearances off the bench.
He started both of West Ham’s Carabao Cup games, including the shock 4-0 defeat to Oxford United, which is not something he’ll wish to remember in a hurry.
He hasn’t really shown too much thus far, and is set to bide his time at the London Stadium for a real run in the side, with Sebastien Haller obviously the main man.
#3 Pablo Fornals
By his own admission, Fornals has found the Premier League quite tough following his £24 million switch from Villarreal ().
In recent weeks though, the Spanish maestro has begun to find his feet and has shown signs that he could become a creative force for West Ham.
#2 David Martin
Perhaps made to look a lot better than he really is due to the horrible shortcomings of Roberto, but David Martin has come into the side to instill some much needed calm at the back.
The Englishman is popular with the fans and his teammates, which was very evident after he kept a clean sheet on his debut against Chelsea.
#1 Sebastien Haller
Some fans might have expected more goals from the £45 million club-record signing (), but truth be told he’s had it tough with Manuel Pellegrini often deploying him as a lone striker.
At times though, when he has support around him, Haller looks like a top player.
He appears tailor-made for the Premier League – physically, he is brilliant, but he also has a lovely first touch and has the ability to bring others into play.
The goals and assists will begin to flow if Pellegrini can give him a partner he so clearly benefitted from last season at Eintracht Frankfurt.
