Rangers would be wise to sign Dundee United hotshot Lawrence Shankland

It’s shaping up to possibly be a busy old summer at Rangers, with Steven Gerrard on a mission to stop Celtic claiming their tenth title in succession.

The Gers came up short once again last season and Gerrard will know he needs to produce the goods during 2020/21.

One aspect that might help Rangers is a little more in the way of firepower; with the club somewhat short in that department

Jermain Defoe is next in line and at 37 he’s not getting any younger. Naturally, he will miss games and Rangers might look for more.

Yesterday a young Rangers B side got a glimpse at a player who could have been a team-mate in Lawrence Shankland.

claimed in February that the Dundee United striker is valued at £3 million with Rangers thought to be interested.

Shankland scored during a 4-1 win against Rangers B yesterday as experience told in the end.

At £3 million the young striker would represent an absolute steal for Rangers.

Last season he fired in 28 goals and registered three assists as Dundee United were promoted to the Premiership.

Options

Some might point to the fact that he’s too similar to Morelos and Shankland but if anything that should make his transition at the club easier.

Currently, there’s no evidence that he will score goals in the top-flight but he’s surely worth a punt given his prolific record in the lower leagues.

Shankland is only 24 and with plenty of years ahead of him, he could be a shrewd investment for the future.

Gerrard has worked wonders with younger players and he could be just the manager to take Shankland to the next level.
