Rangers will be relieved to avoid another Jordan Jones situation after signing Glen Kamara permanently

During the January transfer window, Steven Gerrard was not only preparing for this season but already looking ahead to next season.

Rangers secured two exciting Scottish Premiership players on pre-contract agreements.

Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones and Dundee midfielder Glen Kamara both agreed to join Rangers on a free for the 2019/20 season.

But this presented a problem as the Gers still had to face both of those players in upcoming Scottish Premiership matches.

This problem became a nightmare in late January as Jones scored the winner for Kilmarnock in a league clash against Rangers.

It was ironic that a future Rangers player was the man to seriously dent the Glasgow side’s title hopes.

In between the Kilmarnock game and the transfer deadline, though, Rangers snapped Kamara up on a deal which saw him immediately join.

This was perhaps because of the Jones situation or perhaps because Gerrard wanted reinforcements in midfield.

In either case, Rangers will breathe a sigh of relief as they line up against Kamara’s former club tonight without the Finland international playing for the opposition.

The 23-year-old has only played three matches for Rangers so far but he has already impressed the fans with some dominant midfield displays.

Rangers will be pleased that they have the tenacious ex-Arsenal midfielder in their side tomorrow, rather than fighting against him like they did with Jones.
