Rangers supporters are losing patience with Worrall after deflating Dundee draw

Steven Gerrard brought a host of players to Rangers during the summer and the case of Joe Worrall is perhaps one of the most perplexing.

The Nottingham Forest loanee enjoyed a storming start to last season to the extent that Burnley, when they were riding high in the Premier League, were ready to splash £11.5m on a man who looked like the next promising English central defender to break through.

Aitor Karanka’s appointment at the City Ground should have brought about the next stage of the defender’s development but instead he fell out of favour to the extent that he was allowed to leave the club during the summer.

That was to Gerrard’s gain, but perhaps the reasons behind Worrall’s swift fall from grace are now becoming clear at Ibrox.

Worrall has the talent to shine for the Gers – that’s why Gerrard put his faith in him over Nikola Katic – but he has struggled to settle north of the border and replicate the form that made him highly sought after as recently as January.

That continued as Rangers slipped off the top of the table with a disappointing draw against Dundee, who went into the match at rock bottom.
