Rangers striker Chris McKee claims he rejected Everton and Nottingham Forest
Rangers teen Chris that he turned down offers from four English clubs to move to Ibrox.
McKee had a number of options when he decided he would be leaving Linfield to further his career. There were offers from Nottingham Forest and Stevenage but McKee did not feel as accepted in England as he did in Scotland.
The Northern Ireland U17 starlet was also due to go on trial with Everton and Swansea City. But he made the decision to move to Rangers instead, getting that deal over the line quickly and he has “no regrets” about his decision.
Since joining in summer 2018, the 17-year-old striker has been performing for the Rangers academy teams. He will be aiming for a first-team breakthrough in the near future.
McKee on English interest
Despite having offers from English clubs, McKee was desperate to sign for Rangers. He said (): “I had a few clubs after me so I had a decision to make but my mind was always to sign for Rangers right from the very start.
“When Rangers offered me a contract, it was a no-brainer for me to sign it and I am delighted to be here and thankful for the opportunity. The main thing was when I came to Rangers, it felt like I was at home. The Scottish are very similar to the Northern Irish and we have the same sort of personalities.
“I was offered terms at Nottingham Forest and Stevenage and was supposed to go on trial at Everton and Swansea but I turned them down because I wanted to get my Rangers deal finished. I have no regrets at all and it has been great.”
TBR’s view
McKee looks like an exciting talent and Rangers have a potential gem on their hands. It is a major boost that he felt at home at Rangers because this swayed his decision.
Everton would have been a very attractive prospect. They are an established top-flight English club with a record of producing good young players. But the Northern Irish contingent at Rangers, as well as the culture, helped McKee’s decision.
