Rangers star underlines delight on Instagram after FaceTiming Leeds icon Radebe
James Tavernier celebrated Scottish Premiership success over the weekend as Rangers secured the club’s 55th title – and the Gers captain has underlined his delight after FaceTiming Leeds United icon Lucas Radebe.
Tavernier, 29, has been in sensational form for Rangers this season. A right-back, Tavernier has had a hand in 32 goals in 41 league and cup outings – netting 17 himself and laying on 15 assists, starring domestically and in Europe.
The right-back is closing in on 300 appearances in all competitions for the Gers, after moving north of the border in 2015. He came through the academy at Leeds between 2001 and 2008, before swapping Leeds for Newcastle at 16.
Bradford-born Tavernier showed his true colours on Instagram while celebrating – which saw Rangers not only end their 10-year wait for a title, but also stop Celtic’s pursuit of 10 in a row. he is a boyhood Leeds fan.
Summer signing Bongani Zungu, a South Africa international, made more dreams come true for Tavernier by facetiming Leeds icon Radebe – nicknamed ‘The Chief’ – who congratulated Tavenier and Zungu on the title win.
Tavernier posted his reaction to talking to one of his boyhood heroes on Instagram, and although he did not state he was a Leeds fan – he ended the post with the hash tag “MOT”, which stands for marching on together.
