Northern Ireland take on the Netherlands in international action this week with one Rangers man hoping to help pull off a shock. Steven Davis, who has become a key figure under Steven Gerrard since his Ibrox return, is hopeful his nation can get the better of Ronald Koeman’s side.
The 113-cap midfielder knows that whilst the Dutch are best known for their attacking fluidity, it is actually breaking down their defence that could prove most difficult.

One reason behind that is the presence of former Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.
Davis knows Van Dijk well. The pair never crossed paths in Scottish football but were team-mates together at Southampton.
, the Rangers midfielder spoke of Van Dijk and admitted he will be tough to beat on Thursday night.
“Whenever I was playing with him he was a bit of a Rolls Royce.
“Everything seemed to come so easy for him. Physically he has all the attributes and technically he has all the attributes, and you can see him growing with the experience he is getting at Liverpool.
“He seems to be taking it to another level from when I played alongside him.”

Of course, Rangers fans would love it if Davis can inspire his nation into beating Van Dijk, a player who was so dominant during his time at Celtic.
They are also fully aware of just how difficult a task that will be.
Hopefully, Davis can play a key role in a huge European shock this week. It would certainly give him plenty of confidence when returning to duties in Glasgow.
