Rangers star posts cheeky Instagram message amid reports he could leave Ibrox

It has been a testing time for Nikola Katic at Rangers. Suffering an anterior cruciate ligament last summer, the Croatian defender is close to a return. He recently featured for the Rangers B-Team. Now, amid reports he could leave Rangers before the end of the summer,

Katic, 24, was excellent in his first couple of seasons at Rangers – joining the club from Slaven Belupo in the summer of 2018 for £2million (). Clocking up 59 appearances in his first two seasons, he then suffered a long-term injury. It saw Katic fail to play once for Rangers during 2020-21.

The Scottish Sun claims that Ross Wilson met with Katic’s agent last week and has informed the defender his time at Rangers is over. It is said that the Gers will look to offload him before the end of the window. But posting on Instagram within 24 hours of the reports, Katic had a six-word message.

Katic to leave Rangers: Does Instagram post change things?

What it shows, is where Katic’s head is at. It is clear he wants to stay at Ibrox and fight for his place – and there is certainly a place in the starting XI up for grabs. Filip Helander and Leon Balogun continue to be rotated by Steven Gerrard – but they lack a permanent partner for Connor Goldson.

Katic has the ability and potential to do so. Still young for a centre-back, Katic needs a run of games and the confidence in his ability from Gerrard to bring the best out of him. Does his post change things? Rangers will still have their view, but they should really give the big Croat a chance.
