Rangers star Lundstram compares new Ibrox boss van Bronckhorst, and Gerrard

Rangers midfielder John Lundstram has told that there are only small details in comparison between new Ibrox gaffer Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and Steven Gerrard.

Van Bronckhorst has made an excellent start to life as Rangers gaffer, winning all four games in charge – scoring nine times in the process, and keeping three clean sheets. Rangers have only conceded once.

But they face their toughest challenge under the Dutch gaffer yet on Thursday, an away trip to Lyon. Van Bronckhorst worked under current Lyon gaffer Peter Bosz, during the duo’s time together at Feyenoord.

It is a large improvement from the stuttering performances and the start to the 2021-22 season under Gerrard. The ex-Rangers man has since left the club, joining Aston Villa – winning three of his first four games.

Speaking about his new manager in Wednesday’s press conference ahead of the trip to France, summer signing Lundstram discussed the differences in training and behind the scenes.

“Playing in midfield you always have a certain role to carry out under all managers. There haven’t been massive differences but you can see the small tweaks that the manager has successfully been making,”

Gerrard v van Bronckhorst: What are the biggest differences at Rangers?

Gerrard’s regimented 4-3-3 system was attacking, and dominated the midfield in order to constantly supply the attack. But what it lacked, was a midfielder that would regularly score goals, getting into double figures.

Van Bronckhorst seems to have incorporated the use of a no.10, but also remaining defensively solid. Joe Aribo has been used as a 10, with Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi either side of him – and Alfredo Morelos up front.

Rangers look more attacking, but just as defensively solid. Morelos is not dropping deep as much, and Hagi is becoming more influential. Of course, it could just be the new manager bounce.
