Rangers star Kemar Roofe scores first international goal, Jamaica fans react

Rangers attacker Kemar Roofe scored his first international goal for Jamaica on Thursday morning – and Jamaica fans have applauded him.

Roofe, 28, has made an excellent start to the 2021-22 season at Rangers – scoring six goals in 11. He now has 24 goals in 47 goals for the Gers.

That form has convinced Jamaica to make their move and look to nab Roofe, securing his international allegiance. He now has three caps.

On Thursday morning, in the early hours, Roofe netted his first goal for Jamaica – a neat little poke into the net to put Jamaica 1-0 up.

They secured their first win of their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign, keeping their hopes alive – with a 2-0 away win over Honduras.

The win sees Roofe’s Jamaica sit in sixth of a an eight-nation group. The top three qualify for the World Cup, while fourth go into a play-off.

With two games left to play, Jamaica are two points behind fourth-placed Panama. They need to win at least one of their remaining two games.

But for Roofe on a personal level, he will be delighted to get off the mark for Jamaica. He keeps his nation’s hopes of participating at the World Cup.
