Rangers star applauds Celtic duo Fraser Forster and Mo Elyounoussi
that he is delighted to see Celtic duo Fraser Forster and Mo Elyounoussi starring for Neil Lennon’s side, after playing alongside the two in-form stars at Southampton.
Both Celtic and Rangers triumphed in their League Cup semi-finals at Hampden Park over the weekend. Celtic scored five goals to down Hibernian 5-2, with captain Scott Brown being the unlikeliest of scorers – netting a brace.
Meanwhile, Alfredo Morelos continued his stunning form with two of Rangers’ three goals in a 3-0 win over Hearts. The Colombian took his tally to 20 in 24 games, and it means Celtic and Rangers will do battle for the League Cup on December 8.
Forster, 31, has kept six clean sheets in 13 games – conceding only nine goals – while Elyounoussi is on fire, netting seven goals and turning provider a further five times in 10 games. Rangers veteran Davis applauded the two Southampton loanees.
“I spent a lot of time with Fraser at Southampton and I’m delighted for him that he’s done quite well since he’s come back up,” . “It’s nice to see him enjoying his football after a difficult spell, but hopefully I’ll get the bragging rights.
“Elyounoussi was there as well. He had a difficult time because he picked up a couple of niggling injuries. But now he’s playing regularly and has a bit of confidence with his performances, you can see the sort of level he can get to.
“They are two players who are obviously a big part of Celtic’s squad just now.”
TBR’s view – Elyounoussi will need to be stopped by Rangers next month
If Rangers are to have any chance of winning their first final since returning to the top flight – and stop Celtic’s tenth consecutive domestic title – then they need to stop Elyounoussi.
Shining on the left flank, Norway international Elyounoussi scored twice on Saturday and has immediately taken to life in Scotland. It is clear to see why Southampton spent £16million to sign him.
James Tavernier has been lacking in form but the Rangers skipper must rise to stop Elyounoussi, or Rangers will suffer defeat in the League Cup final.
