Rangers should pair target Martin Skrtel with Connor Goldson

Rangers are reportedly still interested in signing Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel despite missing out on him in the summer.

, Steven Gerrard’s side still want to try bring the 33-year-old to Ibrox to help their backline.

Skrtel is an experienced centre-back that previously played alongside Gerrard as a player at Liverpool and he would be some addition to the Gers if his mooted switch becomes reality.

The 101-time capped Slovakia international will see his contract with Fenerbahce expire at the end of the season and that is why fresh interest makes sense from the Scottish giants.

Skrtel has the class and composure to make a seamless transition to Rangers if a move becomes a reality, while there is the potential for a formidable partnership to take shape.

Connor Goldson is the first-choice centre-back in Gerrard’s squad right now, while Nikola Katic, Joe Worrall and Gareth McAuley appear to be fighting it out for second best.

Skrtel is a class above the rest and a monstrous combination alongside Goldson could be extremely difficult for most strikers to break down.

They could form the backbone of the team with a consistency in the heart of defence and Skrtel would be a great boost if he joined the ranks.
