Rangers should finalise George Edmundson signing before Portsmouth lose Matt Clarke to Brighton
With Joe Worrall’s loan expiring and Gareth McAuley leaving, the centre-back department has quickly become a priority for Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team.
Several names have been linked but he seems set on George Edmundson. , Edmundson is closing in on a move to Rangers.
The 21-year-old, who has played just shy of 100 senior games already, is keen to team up with Gerrard at Ibrox. But Rangers are not alone in their admiration for the £600k-rated Oldham Athletic centre-half.
Portsmouth had a bid accepted for Edmundson. And they are on the verge of losing one of their star defenders, which could see them step up their hunt.

, Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion are set to sign Matt Clarke. The 22-year-old will cost them £6m ().
Armed with this cash, Pompey will have the financial clout to compete with Rangers for Edmundson. And this is why the Gers need to make sure this deal is wrapped up.
Despite Edmundson expressing a desire to join Rangers ahead of Portsmouth, things move quickly in football. If Portsmouth suddenly come in with a lucrative offer, Edmundson could have a change in heart. This could be similar to Celtic missing out on David Turnbull after Norwich City came in with a bigger offer.
Rangers are still in a much more commanding position than Portsmouth at the moment. But they should still try to finalise Edmundson’s arrival before Clarke completes his Brighton switch.
