New signing ‘excited’ about Rangers challenge, spoke to Andy Firth and Ovie Ejaria before joining

Rangers new boy Sheyi Ojo has told that he spoke with goalkeeper Andy Firth and winger Ovie Ejaria prior to penning loan terms at Ibrox.

The 22-year-old will spend a season playing under Steven Gerrard next season, where he will hope to revive his career.

Ojo didn’t enjoy the most consistent of campaigns during 2018/19. He started just three league games for French outfit Reims and saw his progress hampered.

The Liverpool academy graduate sought advice from former Rangers man Ejaria and current Gers ace Firth before making his fifth loan move away from Anfield.

: I’m really excited. Obviously, it’s my first impressions in and around the training ground, seeing all the players. I feel really settled in and I’m ready to go.

“The last 18 months or two years, I’ve not really had that consistent opportunity of football.

“I spoke to Andy Firth. Ovie was here last year as well. I spoke to him, I know a few other players that play in this league as well. With all the advice I got it was an easy decision.”

Ojo has previously played for Wolves, Fulham and Wigan but he hopes playing under Gerrard will provide him with his most fruitful loan spell to date.

: “I think this season with Gerrard hopefully backing me, I’m looking forward to hopefully being myself and just playing how I would naturally play.”

Having not played much football last season, he will hope for a strong pre-season in a bid to get up to scratch as quickly as possible.

The winger is direct, quick and is capable of scoring goals. He is a signing that should excite the Rangers support and the challenge for Gerrard is to get the best out of him.
