Mayo is regarded as one of the club’s most promising young talents, and he has been continually catching the eye in the club’s youth academy.
It surely won’t be long before he will follow in the footsteps on Glenn Middleton and earn promotion to the first-team.
Mayo is a central defender. He could be given a chance if any one of Joe Worrall, Nikola Katic, Conor Goldson or Gareth McAuley sustains an injury in what is going to be a long season.
Lafferty ban
Kyle Lafferty is out of the weekend game with Hamilton, with the Irish FA essentially banning him from playing.
The Northern Ireland international pulled out of the games with Austria and Bosnia with an achilles injury.

This did not go down well with the IFA, which has now invoked a FIFA clause that will prevent Lafferty from playing within five days of the international window.
, and Steven Gerrard will now only have Alfredo Morelos to count on for Sunday’s game.
Ex-Ger Davis to return?
With Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill informing Steven Davis he needs to be playing regular football, speculation has picked up that the midfielder might return to Rangers, .
The 33-year-old former Ger, who represented the club from 2008-2012, has just six minutes of Premier League football to his name so far this season.

Davis is still greatly respected by Rangers fans, most of whom would love to see him return to the club.
He would certainly provide some welcome depth for Gerrard, with the team competing in the Europa League of course this season.
