Rangers player desperate to earn new contract, with current deal expiring in summer
that he is desperate to sign a new contract at Rangers before the end of his current deal, which is due to expire in the summer.
One-time England international Flanagan, 27, joined Rangers as a free agent in the summer of 2018 – signing a two-year deal as he reunited with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard. He has since proven an excellent squad member.
In his first season, the former Bolton and Burnley man clocked up 29 appearances in all competitions – including appearances in the Europa League. This time around, the form of Borna Barisic has limited him to just nine outings.
He did play in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over St. Mirren, and is likely to start on the right side of the defence for the next few weeks as captain James Tavernier recovers from surgery. Flanagan stated his desire to earn a new deal at Rangers.
“I would love to be here [beyond the summer]. It’s a great club with great fans. Everything about it great, so I would love to be here,”

Still a decent age, Flanagan has hardly put a foot wrong when coming into the side. No, he is not as attacking as the likes of James Tavernier and Borna Barisic – Flanagan has created one assist in 38 Rangers matches – but he is good cover.
The Liverpool youth player is able to play on either side of the defence and although he is second choice, he is versatile and defensively solid. He is certainly worth another 12 months, at the very least.
