While Steven Gerrard may be reluctant to admit it, Rangers’s hopes of winning the Scottish Premiership appear to have been dashed for another year.
The Gers’ form since the winter break has seen Gerrard’s men fall 13 points adrift of Celtic at the top of the table.

Rangers may have only fallen one further point behind on Wednesday, but a defeat at home to Hamilton looks to be a lot more damaging than that. And with the Light Blues’ last league win coming back in mid-February, changes surely have to be made.
In truth, the Ibrox faithful would be forgiven for wanting a number of players taken out of the side as their struggles continue.

And one change that Gerrard must consider involves Nathan Patterson, who has not been seen since making his first-team debut back in January.
Time to unleash Patterson?
Patterson was one of the shining lights from their win over Stranraer. And it could certainly be argued that he would have enjoyed a lot more game-time since if he was not battling James Tavernier for a place in the side.
It would be unfair to overlook the fact that Tavernier is capable of colossal performances. And there have been times when he has looked like the leader that Rangers need as they look to end their wait for a trophy.
But he does have to take some of the blame for the goal that the Gers conceded against Accies on Wednesday.
Tavernier may not be being complacent. But perhaps a reminder that he has such a promising rival for his position could be beneficial.
And Gerrard may be wary of throwing the 18-year-old in at a time when Rangers look so short of confidence.
But perhaps now may be the perfect time to give Patterson a run in the side. If his Stranraer performance is anything to go by, he is ready.
