Glasgow Rangers loanee Ross McCrorie has expressed his dismay at the “hugely frustrating” injury woes which have hampered his loan spell at Portsmouth – but the Ibrox midfielder is determined to make up for lost time ().
McCrorie, who has already clocked up an impressive 55 appearances for Rangers (), joined the English League One side in July in a bid to get first-team experience and assist in Pompey’s promotion charge.
However, things haven’t quite worked out for the 21-year-old, who has made just 16 appearances for Portsmouth () amid hamstring problems which have seen him miss around 12 weeks of action in total ().
Nonetheless, McCrorie returned to action for Pompey as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 win against Shrewsbury, providing the cross for Ellis Harrison’s opener just minutes after his introduction.

And following his return to action after extensive rehab, both at Portsmouth and at Rangers, including a mid-season trip to Dubai, the Scotland Under-21 captain is now fully focused on the job at hand for his loan club.
“It’s been hugely frustrating, especially when I think I’ve been fine, and then (the hamstring setback) happened again,” McCrorie told the Blues’ Johnny Moore, as quoted by
“I think we took an extra couple of weeks to make sure it was right, so hopefully this is a good sign, hopefully I’ll hold out and it will be fine. I did a lot of strength work with the physios down here and the physios up at Rangers to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
“So I feel strong, I feel fit again, and I think I showed that at the weekend. I felt strong and raring to go… I’ve definitely got a lot more to offer. Obviously, I’ve been hindered a bit with my injuries this season and have a lot more to offer the fans down here in Portsmouth.”
TBR View:
It’s always a shame when injuries impact on a player’s season, particularly a young and highly talented one like McCrorie, who clearly has something about him to make so many appearances for Rangers.
Indeed, Gerrard told reporters () how Rangers have “big plans” for the player, and when it came to his hamstring issues, he made it clear he wanted the player back to Ibrox for rehabilitation, saying “we want to manage him our way” ().
With the impact McCrorie made upon his return to action for Pompey, hopefully he can now kick on, help get his loan club promotion to the English Championship, pick up valuable experience, and then enter Gerrard’s plans for Rangers’ 2020-21 season.
