Rangers manager hunt: Gennaro Gattuso now joins Gio van Bronckhorst in being open to Rangers return

Reports late on Wednesday night stated that Gio van Bronckhorst was open to a return to Rangers – and now The Record say Rino Gattuso is also keen.

Van Bronckhorst, 46, is nailed on as the favourite to take over from Steven Gerrard. The Liverpool legend has chosen to join Villa until June 2025.

The Dutchman played for Rangers between 1998 and 2001 – winning five trophies in Glasgow. Clocking up 117 games, he won two league titles.

He has since moved into management, guiding Feyenoord to the 2016-17 Eredivisie title. The Sun say he wants to return, 20 years after leaving.

But now, van Bronckhorst is not the only ex-Rangers player that is keen on replacing Gerrard.

Gattuso joined Rangers a year before van Bronckhorst but the duo did play together – before he left in 1999 and 51 games.

He has been out of work after decent spells with Milan and Napoli. Gattuso almost signed on at Tottenham in the summer – and now wants Rangers.

Gattuso to Rangers: A brilliant option for Ibrox outfit, if possible

The report states he is keen to return to Rangers, 22 years after leaving. The World Cup winner is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes.

It means that Gattuso would likely be on high wages if he is to return to Ibrox. That, along with spells at Milan and Napoli.

But if Rangers can strike a deal, he would be a stunning appointment. He is keen on a return and Rangers need someone to get the going, early.
