Report: Rangers set to raid Liverpool for loan of 21-year-old

Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo is set to link-up with Steven Gerrard and join Rangers on loan for the 2019/20 campaign,

The 21-year-old will sign a new five-year contract at Anfield before making the switch to join the ex-Reds midfielder in the Scottish Premiership.

Ojo spent last season on loan with Reims in Ligue 1 but was used sparingly. He started just six games in all competitions playing a part in just two goals all season.

The move to Rangers will be Ojo’s fourth loan spell away from Anfield. The key to him being successful is regular game time and he will hope to get that under Gerrard’s management.

It will be the third time that Gerrard has used his Liverpool connection to bolster his squad. Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria were signed by the Gers boss last season.

The tricky winger will look to emulate Kent, in particular, who had a tremendous campaign at Ibrox, bagging six goals and registering nine assists.

TBR Verdict

After a couple of frustrating loan spells, it is imperative that Ojo plays regular football during his spell at Rangers.

Ojo only has to look at Kent to see what impact Gerrard can have on a player’s career. The 22-year-old was struggling to get into Bristol City’s team last season, yet has been one of the standout players in the Scottish Premiership during 2018/19.

Under Gerrard’s guidance, Ojo could thrive. A confident winger can be a dangerous one and the Reds youngster will hope to revive his career at Ibrox.

The academy prospect has a lot of unearthed potential and the challenge for Gerrard is to unleash it.
