With Sheyi Ojo struggling Rangers could benefit from recalling Jake Hastie

Rangers youngster Jake Hastie is facing an uncertain future as the January transfer window approaches.

The 21-year-old has spent the first half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan with League One outfit Rotherham United.

Hastie has played 11 times for the Millers and scored three goals in his first three games for the club.

Just recently game time has been harder to come by and boss Paul Warne admitted to the that Rangers could recall him.

Hastie cost Rangers £350,000 in the summer with the trickster arriving from Motherwell.

Last season he netted 11 goals and registered seven assists, earning him the switch to Ibrox.

If Steven Gerrard does opt to recall the youngster he may choose to have a look at him during the second half of the season.

Although Rangers are doing rather well this season, the form of Sheyi Ojo has hit a bump in the road.

Like Hastie at Rotherham, the on-loan Liverpool man started well at Rangers.

The 22-year-old has only started eight times, however, and it doesn’t look as though Gerrard is overly convinced by the winger.

Timing

Ojo is only on loan at Ibrox and Gerrard could be savvy and let Hastie become part of his squad for the second half of the campaign.

The ex-Motherwell man might only be used as an impact sub but it would allow the manager to have a proper look at a player the club feels will be a big part of their future.

Hastie has an array of skills, can ease past defenders and is capable of scoring goals from all over the park.

Gerrard has proved his worth when it comes to getting the best out of younger talents. The second half of the current campaign might just be the perfect opportunity for the Rangers boss to have a proper look at his talented wide option.
