that Rangers could look to make a move for Lewis Ferguson if Glen Kamara leaves the Gers during the January transfer window.
Kamara has been a revelation at Ibrox. So it certainly says a lot that Ross Wilson reportedly sees Ferguson as a potential replacement for the Finland international.
And if Rangers do make a move for the Aberdeen ace, it would appear that a deal would certainly receive the backing of one former Gers captain.
Barry Ferguson is, of course, the 20-year-old’s uncle. But comments made by the former Rangers man back in December 2018 – – highlight just what a prospect the youngster is.
“I watched him at a young age with Hamilton Accies. He’d been freed by Rangers, but I could see there was a lot of potential,” he said, .
“Lewis only played four or five months of football at Accies when Derek McInnes signed him and he’s excelled at Aberdeen.
“I just hope he keeps going in the right direction because I think he can be a future Scotland star.”
Of course, Ferguson is hardly going to be critical of his nephew. But it is perhaps telling that he has made little attempt to downplay how good the midfielder could be either.
It must be tempting, especially given Lewis’s age, to insist that he cannot think too far ahead. But the former Rangers hero has no problem backing him for greatness.
And that will bode well if he does join Rangers. He is being backed for the top, and by someone who knows exactly what it takes to be successful at Ibrox.
