Rangers have just paved the way for Celtic to sign ‘unbelievable’ 6ft 2in player for free – TBR View

Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers and Neil Lennon’s Celtic have both been linked with Vaclav Hladky in recent weeks, but with Ibrox now having a new goalkeeper in their ranks, they may have paved the way for their rivals over at Parkhead to get their hands on him.

Hladky, currently a free agent after leaving St Mirren, was heavily linked with Rangers during the January transfer window and again , while Celtic were also thought to be admirers, according to the .

The Czech stopper was in brilliant form for St Mirren last season, making 38 appearances and keeping .

Hladky has now left the Buddies after his contract expired, and in wake of his departure, goalkeeping coach Jamie Langfield sent a heartfelt message to the 29-year-old on .

“You’ll be missed buddie,” he wrote. “One of the nicest persons I’ve ever met in football, also the BEST goalkeeper I’ve ever worked with in my whole career.”

Back in March, St Mirren skipper Sam Foley told PA – as quoted by – of his now former teammate: “He’s had an unbelievable season and he is an unbelievable goalkeeper.

“There’s no doubt in my mind he will end up playing at a much higher level than the Scottish Premiership. It’s only a matter of time.”

However, Rangers have now a new keeper in the shape of Scotland international Jon McLaughlin, who has arrived at Ibrox after leaving Sunderland.

With Allan McGregor and McLaughlin now on the Gers books, that pretty much covers first and second choice – Hladky probably wouldn’t consider them now in this case.

Celtic, meanwhile, only have Scott Bain on their books in terms of senior goalkeepers – Craig Gordon’s contract has run out, while Fraser Forster is set to return to parent club Southampton as things stand.

With Rangers now most likely out of the running and Celtic still in need of reinforcements between the sticks, it’s very much a green light for the Hoops to snap up the highly-rated 6ft 2in free agent.
