Rangers have done well to avoid David Bates situation with Ross McCrorie

Rangers clearly have a talent on their hands in the shape of midfielder Ross McCrorie. The versatile midfielder, who can also play in centre-back and full-back, has been in fine form recently and fully deserves his chance to continue in the first-team at Ibrox.

Rangers had a player in a similar position last season. David Bates was emerging as a top defender in Glasgow. However, the Ibrox club lost him in the summer. After failing to agree a new deal with the player he left for Hamburg and is now impressing in Germany.

Which is where there is good news for Rangers.

Just over a year ago, Rangers handed him and his twin brother, goalkeeper Robby McCrorie, a new contract.

The 20-year-old is secured to Rangers until 2022 and that now looks a wise move to tie him down a long-term contract.

His recent performance against Celtic in the Old Firm derby has made him a firm fan favourite and Rangers must be pleased to have such a versatile and talented player in their ranks.

The fact he is at Rangers until at least 2022 is a massive boost and a repeat of the Bates situation is currently out of the question.
