Glasgow Rangers winger Jordan Jones has made a real name for himself at Sunderland after swapping Ibrox for the Stadium of Light in January.
The 26-year-old joined Rangers in 2019 from Kilmarnock and has made 19 appearances for the Light Blues, scoring one goal and registering two assists.
However, Jones struggled for game time at Ibrox this season, and his red card against Celtic and an last year didn’t do him any favours either.
He subsequently moved south of the border to Sunderland, where he has done incredibly well, helping the Black Cats surge into automatic promotion contention from English League One.
And former Black Cats ace Stephen Elliott believes that the Wearside club should waste no time in moving for the Gers ace for what is reportedly a bargain price.
“Personally if the £600,000 price tag being mentioned for Jones is correct I feel it would be an absolute coup for the club to sign him permanently,” he wrote in the .
“Not only because of his undoubted talent, but also because he seems to be really enjoying his time at Sunderland and is tellingly a popular figure among his teammates.
“When the crowds do finally return Jordan is the type of player who will really excite the fans.
“He’s quick, he’s direct, he can score goals, and most importantly he seems to have a real desire to do well and to succeed.
“I also think he will thrive even more when the supporters return. He just seems that type of character.
“So if ‘the powers that be’ are happening to be reading this, I would strongly advise to get a deal done as soon as possible.”
Given Jones is contracted to Rangers until the summer of 2023, it’s not as though Gerrard needs to cash in on him this summer or risk losing him for nothing.
The player looks to have redeemed himself this season, is a cut above in the English third tier, and is still fairly young, so there’s definitely scope for him to break back into the Gers setup.
Even if Jones were to remain surplus to requirements, they could probably get more money for him than £600,000, as you’d think there’d be plenty of teams in England and Scotland interested in him after seeing him shine in red and white.
