Rangers fans want Nikola Katic recalled after Filip Helander injury blow

Rangers defender Filip Helander has been ruled out of the European showdown with Young Boys for Thursday – and some of the club’s supporters have seen the positive side and expect teammate Nikola Katic to replace him.

Gers manager Steven Gerrard has confirmed () that 26-year-old centre-back is unavailable against Young Boys.

He’s been ruled out after a scan on a foot injury, which he picked up in the Scottish League Cup final defeat to Celtic at the weekend.

Rangers have to focus on a major fixture against Young Boys at Ibrox and they know they will qualify for the Europa League knockout rounds if they avoid defeat.

The Scottish giants will top their European group with a victory, but they did lose the reverse fixture in Switzerland against Young Boys back in October.

A selection of Rangers supporters predict that Katic will be promoted to the starting XI and partner Connor Goldson in the heart of defence.

Katic replaced Helander late on in the defeat to Celtic and looks the most obvious replacement that Gerrard will turn to.

The 23-year-old Croatian has lost his starting spot in the team this season, but still has the back of plenty of supporters and they are keen to see him in action.

It’s a huge European night for Rangers to try get past and they will need to be switched on defensively.
