Rangers fans urge Steven Gerrard to hand first start to midfielder

Rangers play host to Hibernian at Ibrox on Wednesday evening as they look to get their Scottish Premiership title chase back on track with three points – and Gers fans have urged Steven Gerrard to start midfielder Ianis Hagi for the first time.

Hagi, 21, joined Rangers in the dying moments of the January window – on loan from Champions League side KRC Genk, with a view to making the deal a permanent move. He has featured five times in this season’s Champions League for the Belgian outfit.

Now, he is wearing the light blue of Rangers and Hagi – son of Barcelona and Real Madrid legend Gheorge – made his debut for the club on Saturday as Rangers failed to overcome Derek McInnes’ Aberdeen at Ibrox, coming on as a sub.

that KRC Genk signed Hagi for a whopping £4million from Romanian outfit Viitorul, and it is believed that his permanent clause is likely to be higher than that figure.

Hagi can play out wide or in the 10 role – much like Ryan Kent – and it will be interesting to see how Gerrard incorporates the 10-time Romania international if he seesn Hagi as first choice. Certainly as a substitute, he instantly offered more threat.

Rangers fans took to Twitter ahead of Wednesday’s league game against Hibernian, in an attempt to convince Gerrard that new signing Hagi needs to start against Jack Ross’ side.
