Rangers suffered a 2-1 away defeat to Kilmarnock on Wednesday night in the Scottish Premiership, which meant they slipped down to third in the league table.
The Light Blues resumed league action after the winter break and went into the midweek fixture buoyed by a win over Celtic in December.
Jermain Defoe scored his first goal for the Gers since joining in January early in the contest to give the visitors a lead.
But Eamonn Brophy quickly equalised for the hosts and Steven Gerrard’s side never really recovered.
Jordan Jones, who will move to Ibrox in the summer, was the dramatic match-winger in the second-half for Kilmarnock to earn them the three points that saw them leapfrog Rangers in the table.

Steven Davis was another January recruit for Gerrard’s team on loan from Southampton and he started against Kilmarnock.
The 34-year-old previously had a four-year spell with the Scottish giants earlier in his career and has returned to try aid a title bid.
But they are now three points adrift of leaders Celtic, who have also played a game more.
Davis was introduced to the side in midfield and is renowned for his creativity, but he received a mixed response to his display on Wednesday before being substituted off.
The Northern Ireland international may need time to readjust to playing regular football again and he wasn’t quite at his sharpest.
Here are some of the mixed Rangers fan tweets on his comeback performance:
Steven Davis and Arfield have been useless.

Steven Davis creative and taken off. Jack scared to pass the ball forward stays on? ?♂️

What you notice with Steven Davis is just how quick he can play a decisive pass. Great seeing the wee man back in a shirt.

Davis coming looking for the ball all the time is beautiful.

Davis has been absolutely horrendous tonight

The addition of Davis and Defoe hasn’t worked so far other than forcing an unsuccessful change in shape. Davis contributed very little in the midfield and little sign of Defoe having any kind of link up with Morelos, who is yet to show he’s capable of playing on a two.

Bringing a centre back off isn’t going to do anything ? Davis has been woeful. Not fully fit yet obviously

Davis and Kent seem like the only fit players at the moment
