Rangers fans react to Matt Polster’s substitute display against Hamilton

Rangers highlighted the gap between the Old Firm sides and the rest of Scottish football with a huge 5-0 win over Hamilton on Sunday afternoon at Ibrox – and supporters were impressed with thr substitute display of Matt Polster.

Polster, 25, joined the club after being released by MLS outfit Chicago Fire towards the end of 2018. He put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal to keep him at the club until the summer of 2021.

But the one-time America international has struggled for game time since his move to Ibrox, with captain James Tavernier keeping the American on the sidelines. Tavernier has once again been excellent on the right side of defence.

But Polster came on just after the hour mark to claim his fourth Rangers appearance and third of this season, with the three points already secured against Brian Rice’s side. But with Polster on the pitch, Rangers continued to cause havoc.

Goals came from Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic and a hat-trick from Jermain Defoe to secure three points, taking the Gers to the top of the Scottish Premiership table after seven wins in eight league games. Celtic lost to Livingston.

Rangers fans reacted on Twitter to the substitute display of Polster, and many were impressed by the versatile ace who is naturally a right-back but can also play in the middle of the park.
