Jon Flanagan saw out the entire 90 minutes on the left side of the Rangers defence on Thursday night as Steven Gerrard’s side eased into the Europa league play-off round – but many fans were not happy with Flanagan’s display.
The 26-year-old has become a somewhat important player at Rangers, since reuniting himself with former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard at Ibrox. He joined the Scottish club on a free in the summer of 2018.
Since then, the one-time England international has been used as a left-back more so than a right-sided defender – despite being right-footed. He has since clocked up 32 appearances for the Light Blues.

This season, Flanagan has only appeared in the Europa League outings against FC Midtjylland. Gerrard prefers Flanagan in the Europa League at the back instead of Andy Halliday, while Borna Barisic is injured.
A mistake by Flanagan allowed Midtjylland in to score their consolation goal though he remained solid enough, given he was playing on the left side of defence on his wrong side.
But Rangers fans were not as sympathetic on Twitter. Many criticised the former Liverpool defender for his display, stating that he is simply not good enough to be considered the club’s first-choice left-back.

We should be asking killie how much Taylor would cost. Look to offload BB to fund it imo. Plenty on the continent would take a punt on the Croatian int left back surely. I just don't think he's suited to the style of play Gerrard wants or the Scottish game.

I'm gonna be the one to have to say it am I? Jon Flanagan is not good at soccer

Rangers need a new left back. Not one of Barasic, Flanagan or Halliday are remotely convincing there.
