Rangers fans react on Twitter to Filip Helander’s display in Europa League loss

It would have been incredibly easy to forget that Filip Helander’s previous appearance for Rangers came back in December 2019 based on his performance on Thursday night.

Steven Gerrard’s side are out of the Europa League after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. In truth, it was a tough night for the Gers who rarely threatened to produce an incredible turnaround.

But there were some positives for Gerrard to reflect upon. And one surely was the performance of Helander as the centre-back returned to the backline alongside Connor Goldson.

Plenty of Rangers fans took to social media during and after the game to laud Helander’s display. Several clearly felt that he was one of the players who could be content with their contribution.

He looked assured on the ball and showed no signs of rust.

It looked to be an important night for the Swede. Leon Balogun was lauded by the supporters following his debut display in the win at Aberdeen at the weekend.

Balogun will have his sights set on establishing himself in the side alongside Goldson. But Helander certainly produced a display that would have reminded Gerrard why, when fit, he was a key man for the Light Blues during his first year at Ibrox.
