When Leon Balogun produced an opening day masterclass on his Rangers debut, Gers fans may have been wondering how difficult it would be for the likes of Filip Helander to get back into Steven Gerrard’s side.
Helander was impressive during his first season at Ibrox. But Balogun’s Pittodrie performance suggested that Rangers had produced a masterstroke in signing the Nigeria international.

Now however, it appears that it is Balogun who may have to be patient, with Helander producing another outstanding display in Rangers’s latest win.
The Gers remain top of the Scottish Premiership after beating Hamilton 2-0 on Saturday. In truth, it should have been a much more comfortable victory for the visitors. But the win saw Rangers secure their sixth clean sheet in a row at the start of this season.

And Helander has been lauded by many on social media for his performance against Accies. The Swede was a rock alongside Connor Goldson.
He read the game superbly and stood up to every challenge that came his way. In fact, he seemed to endear himself to supporters even more during the second-half after bouncing straight back up after taking an elbow to the mouth in an aerial challenge that left him bleeding.
Plenty of fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise on the 27-year-old. He may lack pace, but he is continuing to prove that there are very few other weaknesses in his game.
Here is how some of the fans reacted to Helander’s performance…
Ryan Kent will most likely get all the headlines as he deserves but Helander was a mammoth once again.

Big Helander and McLaughlin have been dynamite so far.
Just quietly getting on with their business. Solid Papac style 7 or 8/10 each game.

Fil Helander eh…what a player.

Helander is the best centre back in Scotland, unbelievable reader of the game

Helander man. I’m in absolute awe at how the guy can be so good at defending it doesn’t matter that he’s slower than a week in jail.
