A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Calvin Bassey’s display in the Gers’ Europa League group-stage opener on Thursday – with many left hugely impressed with the youngster.
Bassey would have been forgiven for expecting to play little or no part against Standard Liege. He was initially named on the bench with Borna Barisic keeping his place at left-back.

However, he was needed just before the break. Barisic needed to be replaced in the final moments of the first-half. And that presented Bassey with a rare opportunity to impress.
And it seems fair to say that the 20-year-old did exactly that with his performance.

Plenty of fans suggested that Bassey did extremely well while he was on the pitch. , he made two key passes. Scott Arfield was the only Rangers player to provide more.
Defensively, he was extremely sound. He stuck to his task incredibly well. And he used his impressive frame to ensure that he was rarely beaten down Standard’s right flank.
‘Strolling this’
Bassey faces an incredibly difficult task trying to force his way into Rangers’s side. Barisic is undoubtedly one of the most impressive players playing anywhere in the Scottish Premiership.
It would be a huge shame for the Gers if Barisic’s injury was at all serious. But Bassey stepped up in incredibly tough conditions to help the visitors secure a hugely important win in Belgium.
Here is how some of the supporters reacted to Bassey’s performance…
I honestly though Big Bassey would have been a development signing but he really does a job when coming in. Yes he’s raw but he’s pure power. Love him.
