A number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the somewhat surprising decision Steven Gerrard has taken to leave Filip Helander out of the starting lineup for their Europa League tie at Ibrox on Thursday.
The Gers look to have a fantastic opportunity to book their spot in the quarter-final of the competition after drawing 1-1 with Slavia Prague last week.

The Light Blues came under enormous pressure at times. And they were grateful to Allan McGregor for producing an outrageous save in the final moments of the tie.
But the Scottish Premiership champions also landed punches of their own. So they will certainly be optimistic that they can secure yet another famous win in the competition.
One decision Gerrard has made ahead of the game seems to have surprised some on social media however.

Helander started the first-leg alongside Connor Goldson. And while the Swede endured a couple of nervy moments early on, he seemed to really grow into the game.
However, Gerrard has opted for Leon Balogun to play at the heart of the backline tonight.
Some have insisted that it is a smart move given that Balogun gives Rangers more pace at the back. Others however, clearly fear that leaving Helander out could be a mistake given his brilliant form of late.
With that in mind, here is how some of the Gers fans have reacted to the decision…
I like Balogun but Helander has been unreal for us. Disappointed he’s been dropped

They played the high ball over the top last week and Balogun is quicker than Helander.

Balogun clearly selected for his pace but I am a big fan of Helander and his ability to read a game. Big call from the manager but we have to trust him in what he has referred to as his biggest game in management so far. Let’s go Rangers 🇬🇧

Thought helander and Hagi would have started. But other than that. Lets go 🇬🇧

Why drop helander he was minted last game

Helander on the bench? 🤮
— Jamie Scott (@mrjayger)
Probably our strongest line up. Though Balogun for Helander is debatable

Cant understand why Helander has been dropped after his performance last week…
