Ross McCrorie joined English League One side Portsmouth in the summer on a season-long loan despite being a regular in Steven Gerrard’s side last season – and now a development has seen Rangers fans urge him to return to Ibrox.
McCrorie, 21, made his debut under Pedro Caixinha back in September 2017 and has since clocked up 55 senior appearances for the Gers. He started out as a central defender, but was converted into a midfielder by Graeme Murty.
Last season, McCrorie was an important part of Gerrard’s team – clocking up 31 appearances for the Gers in all competitions. However, Rangers have brought in three new central midfielders this summer, pushing McCrorie down the pecking order.

Indeed, Andy King has joined on loan from Leicester City, while Steven Davis and Joe Aribo have completed free transfers to Ibrox. McCrorie has managed three appearances for Portsmouth – but his last will come as interesting.
A red card on his debut against Shrewsbury saw him benched for the next two league games, before coming back into the side – but as a right-back.
Indeed, McCrorie came off the bench against Sunderland on Saturday as a right-sided defender, before seeing out the entire 90 minutes on Tuesday night in a 3-3 draw against Coventry City. But Rangers fans are not impressed, and want him back.
