Rangers fans react as club reportedly set to sign playmaker Ianis Hagi

that Rangers are close to completing a loan-to-buy deal to sign KRC Genk playmaker Ianis Hagi with the player jetting into Glasgow on Thursday ahead of a medical – and Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter.

Hagi, 21, is the son of former Barcelona, Real Madrid and 124-time Romania international Gheorge Hagi – but the youngster has made his own way in the world of European football, playing five times in this season’s Champions League.

Naturally an attacking midfielder, Hagi can also play out wide and Genk have sanctioned a move to Rangers  – despite the 10-time Romania international clocking up 19 appearances for Genk this season, scoring three and creating four.

Hagi only joined Genk in the summer for a fee of £4million () from Romanian side Viitorul. He has impressed for Genk, having a hand in seven goals despite starting just seven of his 19 games. He has a contract until 2024.

It remains to be seen how much Rangers will need to pay to sign the former Fiorentina star on a permanent basis come the end of the season, but it is likely to be more than the amount Genk paid in the summer.

Rangers fans have reacted to the reportedly imminent move that will see Hagi add to Steven Gerrard’s options in attacking midfield, which include Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield and Joe Aribo. Many believe Hagi will be a good signing for the club.
