Rangers fans react as club linked with Hamburg star Lewis Holtby

Rangers have already taken advantage of the free agent market and now Steven Gerrard is reportedly looking to sign playmaker Lewis Holtby on a free from Hamburger SV – and Gers fans are excited on Twitter.

The 28-year-old is expected to leave Hamburg at the end of the season when his contract expires. That is despite Hamburg currently sitting in second place in Bundesliga 2 and on the brink of promotion.

Some may remember the three-time Germany international from his stint at Tottenham Hotspur and Fulham. Now, he is showing glimpses of the kind of form that saw him turn out for Spurs.

Rangers are keen despite having plenty of options in the middle of the park. But Gerrard will want a player that is able to score from deep. Only Scott Arfield has scored somewhat regularly.

Holtby has had a hand in nine goals during 24 league games this season, and Rangers want to sign him from a club that centre-back David Bates joined last summer – after his Rangers contract expired.

Rangers fans reacted to the news that Holtby could be about to pull on the Light Blue of Rangers, and fans are delighted that the ex-Schalke playmaker could be on his way to Ibrox at the end of the season.
