Rangers are reportedly looking to lure Rennes centre-back Mexer to Ibrox this summer, as the powerful defender enters the final weeks of his contract – and Gers fans are excited at the prospect of Mexer in a Light Blue shirt.
the 30-year-old is a target for Rangers, although the Ligue 1 side are desperate to keep him at the club beyond the end of the season.
Mexer has been one of the first names on the team sheet for the French outlet this season. Indeed, he has clocked up 41 appearances in all competitions – and starred against Paris Saint-Germain last time out.
Rennes won the French Cup, and Mexer scored Rennes’ equaliser before the Ligue 1 side won on penalties. The report claims Steven Gerrard is desperate to land the centre-back, and has gone to extreme lengths to do so.
The report claims he was spotted in a French restaurant this week, situated in Rennes, with a view to signing Mexer. Rangers desperately need a centre-back this summer, with two set to leave.
Gareth McAuley’s contract looks set to expire at the end of the season, while Joe Worrall is likely to return to Nottingham Forest rather than remain at Ibrox beyond the summer.
Rangers fans took to Twitter in excitement upon hearing the news that Mexer could be the next player to sign on, after Jordan Jones, Steven Davis and Jake Hastie are already set to join this summer.
